Alexander Gehler took this photo of the upper masticatory plate (the only extant specimen) during the great Steller exhibition 1996 in Halle/Germany. On the Webpage of the St. Petersburg Museums you find this photo of their specimen. (opens new window) his skeleton owns a left Innominate (pelvic) bone. Records do not mention that this specimen had such bone. An explanation is required if his bone is a replica or was probably on loan from Chabarowsk, the only Russian Museum owning this rare bone and which is missing their left half of this bone. |
